SAGA - House Of Cards
SPV SPV085-72162
House Of Cards is the latest album in the career of Saga which stretches back to 1977. This album contains all the ingredients long-time fans have come to expect - great songs and impeccable performances throughout. Vocalist Michael Sadler and Guitarist Ian Crichton coming in for special praise here.
Saga of late have, to these ears anyway, become more accessible both in production and the songs, and while we're never likely to see them slugging it out with the latest boy/girl band in the charts - the more concise route they've chosen to pursue is obviously paying dividends. House Of Cards could find itself rubbing shoulders with the likes of Queensryche and Rush in your CD collection - seriously.
That's not to say Saga have lost their own identity with this - the whole album is still a Saga album, but I do hope it inches them a little further up the ladder of success. They deserve it - and what's more in this album they have the where-with-all to do it. Best tracks are the opening God Only Knows, Once In A Lifetime and a track begging to be a single in America - Always There.
