These songs were recorded at Phase One Studio, Toronto, Canada in 1979.
SAGA recorded the first three albums at this studio & these are demo tapes we found of songs we were trying out for the 2nd album, 6 of which never appeared on "Images at twilight" album number two.
What you will hear is the band in the studio playing live, takin' some new songs for a test drive.
"I hope you enjoy the other 2nd album"
JIM

Lyrics
Half The Time
Wouldn‛t it be nice
If there were more hours in a day
There‛d be more time to look good
And lots more time to stay
If you had the time, half the time
If you had the time, half the time
How would you spend it,
If you didn‛t have to lend it?
You may have had hours
You‛ve spent waiting to leave
Consuming those minutes
Was frustration indeed
If you had that time, all that time
If you had that time, go that time
It was a bore when you got there
You had to hurry just to leave
Watching this long race
Is the sport for me
& watching you keep pace
Is exciting to see
If you lend the time, half the time
& you spend the time, half the time
I‛m not sure who‛s winning
Or if you just try to place
You hurry to get there
Then you hurry to leave
Who did you meet there?
Or did you have time to see
You may have had hours
You spend waiting to leave
Consuming those minutes
But it‛s frustration indeed
If you had that time, all that time
If you had that time, go that time
It was a bore when you got there
You had to hurry just to leave
Wouldn‛t it be nice
If there were more hours in a day
There‛d be more time to look good
And lots more time to stay
If you had the time, half the time
If you had the time, half the time
How would you spend it,
if you didn‛t have to lend it?
You hurry to get there
Then you hurry to leave
Who did you meet there?
Or did you have time to see
Old Man
The desert sun shone down upon him
He went to find the Old Man
Too see if he could learn the secret of magic
The Indian held in his hand
Old Man won't you teach me your magic
I'd like to see the world the same way as you.
Has anyone seen the one that I search for?
I know he comes here once in a while
Someone must know where I could find him
But they just shook their heads and smiled.
Old Man won't you teach me your magic
I'd like to see the world the same way as you.
Then someone tappped him on the shoulder
And said I think you're looking for me
Now that I'm here your search is over
I will reveal your reason to be.
Teach me to see instead of just looking
Show me how I can stop the world
I want to become a man of knowledge
Unlock the door that keeps me away.
Old Man won't you teach me your magic
I'd like to see the world the same way as you.
Hangman
Listening to the sound of wood being set into place
The rhythm suggesting someone‛s in a hurry
Soon those footsteps will be coming here to rescue me
All this time in thoughts, it's twice they killing me
Hangman please, no pain
Be quick, I don‛t wish to feel
What the dream tonight told me
They said there was a fight
I don‛t recall my even being there
I had too much to drink
They say I brought a gun with me and I used it there
Hangman please, no pain
Be quick, I don‛t wish to feel
What the dream tonight told me
Lead me down the hall
Now I see the silhouette that waits for me
Black cloak standing tall
Do you know my name, can you feel for me?
Hangman please, no pain
Be quick, I don‛t wish to feel
What the dream tonight told...
You're Not Alone
There was a man who thought
He could avoid all of the things
That stood up in his way
Friends would say that he should
Plan to spend more time
There's lots of trouble in a day
With just enough work
And a short line to a goal
He was so sure
He could secure his place
He wanted a lot and was so
Quick to say how this small
World was unfair to its race
He'd spend his time, spends his time
Deciding routes with lines, routes with lines
There was no time, was no time
For corners in the lines, corners in lines
Chorus
Your pathway grows dark
Was clear at the start
You're not ! You're not ! You're not alone
Your pathway grows dark
Was clear at the start
You're not ! You're not ! You're not alone
Not listening to the people whe were close
There always seemed to be an easy way
The work was tiresome, a thing to avoid
Leaving lots of time so he could play
He'd spend his time, spend his time
Shortening lines, shortening lines
There was no time, there was no time
To spend too long on the line, long on the line
Chorus

Mouse In A Maze
Chorus
He's a mouse in a maze
With its so many ways
But there's only one way to get out
He's a mouse in a maze
With its so many ways
But there's only one way to get out
Ever nearing eyes
Watch him as he tries
To correct that one same mistake
It shouldn't take long
Oh, where did he go wrong
He's tried so hard
It must be in his fate
For everybody else
It's quick they need no help
Why must it take him so long
He's been this way before
Stares at the final door
The one he's missed
Each time he's been around, around
With plenty of advice
From all the other mice
Sets out and hopes he's got it straight
His audience will grow
As long as he is slow
They love to watch another man's mistakes
As more of them arrive
His path is more disguised
Confusion seems to cloud his every thought
But it's been this way before
Stares at the final door
The one he's missed
Each time he's been around, around
Chorus (x2)
Ever nearing eyes
Watch him as he tries
To correct that one same mistake
It shouldn't take long
Oh, where did he go wrong
He's tried so hard
It must be in his fate
For everybody else
It's quick they need no help
Why must it take him so long
But he's been this way before
Stares at the final door
The one he's missed
Each time he's been around, around

Don't Bother
Each day I find it a little bit harder
To get up out of bed
I can‛t seem to start to my head
What was I to do? I can‛t remember
Did I talk to you?
Have you forgotten too?
Things keep piling up they don‛t get better
Looks like I am stuck again; bad weather
Life for me can be a great big bother
Does it feel like that to you?
What are we to do?
Each day‛s events, one after another
I always get there late
What a sorry state
Things keep piling up they don‛t get better
Looks like I am stuck again; bad weather
Hot To Cold
You've got us hanging off your every word
Patiently waiting a sign
One minute we can expect the absurd
Next minute everything's fine
So unpredictable no reason nor rhyme
Worse than the hours in a day
We seem to remember
A well balanced time
Or was it always this way
Chorus
Hot to cold
Too hot to hold
Hot to cold
Too hot to hold
Too hot to...
Half a degree either way unconcerned
You shed no ray of relief
And plagued by a fear
Of your high winds of change
Day to night's difference is brief
Erratic shifts in your moods have us all
Under a high pressure sway
Showering us constantly playing your game
We have no choice but to play
Chorus

Don't Step Out of Line
We are the pawns
And our moves are controlled by somebody else
Each in his time
Is removed without care and placed on the shelf
We can‛t hope to survive
We‛ve not the power to alter the course
Each of us in our lives
Must attend to release our ties to the source
Don‛t step out of line
How can we win?
Can we risk making moves that end in surprise?
Surely our strength
Is not really seen as much in their eyes
There‛s safety in numbers we‛re told
But we need the help of someone inside
Someone who knows place and time
Someone who‛s not afraid to decide
Don‛t step out of line
We just can‛t take anymore
We‛ve been fooling ourselves for too long
It‛s time for a change
Time to put our plans in flight
And take what is rightfully ours
Tonight we strike!
Now that we‛re in
Things will be different, there‛ll be quite a change
It‛s taken so long
Now that we run things, it all feels so strange
We‛ll look after our own
We‛ll clothe and feed them, control their design
Things will run smoothly, we‛re sure
So long as the new ones don‛t step out of line
Don‛t step out of line
