Ein bewegtes Jahr geht zu Ende und viele von uns durften einzigartige Momente mit der Band erleben.
Wir wünschen allen ein gutes, erfolgreiches, gesundes und vor allem rockiges Neues Jahr und freuen uns auf ein Wiedersehen!
Hier ist ein kurzer Jahresrückblick 2012
Januar
Jim Gilmour meldet sich aus Canada: er sei nach seiner Augenopreration wieder zurück und seine Augen auf dem Wege der Besserung.
Februar
Die Band gibt nach sechsjähriger Zusammenarbeit die Trennung von Brian Doerner bekannt.
Der Titel des neuen Albums wird 20/20 sein und es wird im Sommer veröffentlicht.
Für den Herbst werden Shows in Canada, Europa und Südamerika angekündigt.
Die Rock City Radio Show Berlin sendet ein 20 minütiges SAGA Special incl. eines Interviews mit Michael Sadler (aufgenommen am 22.11.2011 im Tempodrom).
März
SAGA starten die "SAGA Drummer Search" im Netz. Es müssen zwei Songs eingespielt und als Video auf youtube gestellt werden.
Die Band gibt die Tracklist des neuen Albums 20/20 bekannt. vö-Datum wird im Juli 2012 sein.
April
Es gibt neue Sommer-Tourdates für Deutschland, Canada, Frankreich und die Niederlande und eine umfangreiche Herbsttour wird angekündigt.
Der neue Drummer wird vorgestellt: willkommen Mike Thorne!

Happy Birthday SAGA! 35 Jahre: 13.06.1977 - 13.06.2012
Erste Hörproben des neuen Albums sind im Netz zu finden.
Das Tourplakat wird veröffentlicht.

Das 20. Studioalbum 20/20 wird veröffentlicht.
SAGA spielen beim Night of the Prog Festival auf der Loreley.
20/20 ist in den Deutschen Albumcharts auf #13, in Schweden auf #39.
Die Band spielt sechs Shows in Canada.
August
SAGA spielen einige Festivals in Deutschland, Frankreich und den Niederlanden.
September
Michael Sadler läd anstatt der abgesagten Show in New York zu einem privaten Meet & Greet ein.
Oktober
Die Band geht im Oktober und November auf Europatour durch Deutschland, die Schweiz und die Niederlande.
Knut Bausch springt für ein paar Shows für den erkrankten Ian Crichton als Gitarrist ein.
In Giessen findet ein SAGA Germany Fan Meeting statt.

Thoughts and Thanks-The 20/20 European Tour
Hello everyone,
After doing as little as possible for the first 24 hours or so since returning from the European 20/20 tour, I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you who came out to share an evening with us. I can honestly say that on this recent outing I was overwhelmed each and every night by your enthusiasm, love & support. But even more than that was the level of energy I felt in the room each night. What an inspiration you have all been, and in fact continue to be! Make no mistake about it, this most recent collection of "Nights To Remember" will stay with me always, and I'm looking very much forward to the next time we can all spend an evening together.
However, in the category of "comfort in the workplace", top honours will have to once again go to our amazing crew! I know I've said it before and I'm sure I'll say it again but, our crew is simply the best there is, hands down. Not only are they true professionals, but they each go far above and beyond the call of duty each day thereby consistently giving me the feelng that we are truly "in this together".
So, my very special thanks to Bernie Zylka, Al Paquette, Dean Meehan, Winnie Pulst, Chris Kostyra, Wolfgang Sauer & Thorsten Frasdorf.
Thank you gentlemen........for everything! You are truly the best and it's a pleasure to work with you all.

Susi Mueller (Saga Germany) for just showing up and helping out, without being asked. But more importantly for organizing and carrying out a very cool fan club Meet and Greet in Giessen (as well all those who assisted her in the planning and execution). Thank you, it was a great event and really set the tone for that evening's performance.
All the local promoters, crew, catering and security. Thank you for helping to make this a very successful adventure. See you next time...

Mike Thorne....what can I say except, thank you for making the circle complete! You were awesome! (I feel a duet coming on next time around!)
I would just like to say in closing that, without all of you and countless others not mentioned here, this tour would not have been possible, but I think you already know that...

On behalf of the band I would like to take this opportunity to formally thank and give due credit to Saga's "fill-in" guitar player Knut Bausch, who not only did a fantastic job of learning a great deal of music in a very short period of time and then perform those very songs only hours later, but wound up becoming fast friends with each of us in the process.
Because of Knut's talent, ability & availabilty Saga was able to continue our present tour and avoid having to cancel any shows, and for that the band will be forever in his debt!
Knut, it was an absolute pleasure working with you and btw...in case you don't realize it, like it or not you are now officially part of Saga's history!
Thank you again my friend. All the very best to you and your family and continued success & good fortune for your musical career!

Hello all,
Here is an update on the current state of affairs,
First of all I would like to thank each of you for all of your concerns. This is the situation at the moment. Ian was indeed admitted to hospital today for a combination of stress and exhaustion, something very commonplace amongst those of us that work in the business we are in. And considering how hard Ian has been working of late (as witnessed by those of you who have had the chance to see one of his performances during the first few shows) it's not surprising that Ian requires a slight breather. This is not a serious matter in terms of jeapordizing the tour going forward. Granted, Ian will need a few days to "catch his breath" as it were, but in the meantime there be a special guest sitting in for Ian for the next few shows so....yes, the shows will go on! And as far as I've been informed, as of right now tonight's show in Worpswede has been reschduled for next Tuesday, by which time, if not sooner, you can almost certainly expect the return of everyone's favourite guitar hero, (myself included I might add) to the stage!
So, there you have it. I hope this update has served to both inform and reassure all of you.

Noch zwei Tage bis zum Fan Meeting!!!!
Wir laden alle Fans zu einem Meet&Greet am Samstag, 27.10.2012 ab 16 Uhr in der Kongresshalle in Giessen ein.
In lockerer Atmosphäre gibt es Möglichkeit zum Plausch mit anderen Fans und natürlich auch ein Treffen mit der Band. SAGA wird - wie auch schon bei den früheren Fan Meetings - nach dem Soundcheck dazukommen.

„Wir waren immer Freunde geblieben"
Frage: War das Keyboard immer die erste Wahl für Dich ein Instrument zu lernen?
Gilmour: Nicht unbedingt. Als ich neun Jahre alt war, lernte ich Akkordeon. Dann wollte ich an die Universität um Musik zu studieren im Fach Oper. Ich brauchte für die Aufnahme in die Musikfakultät Kenntnisse im Klavierspielen. Das lernte ich mit 17 Jahren. Ich begann also ziemlich spät mit einem Tasteninstrument.
Frage: Hattest Du irgendwelche Vorbilder?
Gilmour: Mit 16 hörte ich die LP „Close to the edge" von YES mit Rick Wakeman. Das liebte ich und es veränderte mein Leben. Auch Keith Emerson oder Eddie Jobson von der Gruppe UK sind große Einflüsse.
Frage: Es heißt die Gruppe GENTLE GIANT hat Saga in ihrer Anfangsphase sehr beeindruckt. Die englische Band wechselte bei ihren Bühnenshows bei jedem Song die Instrumente.
Gilmour: Wir waren alle riesen Gentle Giant-Fans! Sie sind die unterschätzteste Band der Welt. Sie waren zu groß, als dass es die Leute begriffen. Sie waren brilliante Musiker. Leider habe ich sie nie live auf der Bühne erlebt, aber die anderen in der Band schon.
Frage: Findest Du, dass es Progressive Rock zur Zeit sehr gut geht und er sogar immer beliebter wird?
Gilmour: Er ist immer dagewesen, obwohl er früher mehr zum Underground zählte. Er ist stark in den Musikmagazinen vertreten, aber es ist heuzutage schwierig Millionen von Alben zu verkaufen mit dieser Stilrichtung.
Frage. Gibt es Gruppen im Progressive Rock, die Dich ansprechen?
Gilmour: Nicht wirklich. Von Porcupine Tree gefällt mir ein Album: „Dead wing". Das ist sehr gut. Der Rest interessiert mich nicht so.
Frage: Ist der Schlüssel zu Saga's Erfolg die Mischung aus Hard Rock der elektrischen Gitarre, Progressive Rock von den Syntesizern/ Keyboards und melodiösem Gesang?
Gilmour: Saga wollte immer verschieden klingen. Wir hielten nichts von 18-minütigen langweiligen Songs, bloß weil sie lang sind. Die Absicht progressiv zu klingen sollte nicht den Song diktieren. Das progressive Element steckt im Song selber.
Frage: Wie fühlt es sich an, dass Michael (Sadler) zurück in der Band ist?
Gilmour: Als er wieder zur ersten Probe kam, war es, als ob er nie weggewesen wäre. Wir waren immer Freunde geblieben und hegten keine schlechten Gefühle, als er eine Auszeit genommen hatte. Es ist toll, dass er zurück ist.
Frage: Verwendet Saga übrig gebliebenes Material von vorhergehenden Sessions, wenn sie eine neue CD aufnehmen?
Gilmour: Niemals, wir beginnen immer völlig neu. Von Saga gibt es tausende Schnipsel Musik, die noch keiner gehört hat.
Frage: Vielleicht könnt ihr es in einem Box-Set veröffentlichen.
Gilmour. Man muss zuviel Arbeit investieren und bekommt nichts zurück ........(lacht).
Frage: Bist Du noch mit eurem Original-Drummer Steve Negus in Kontakt?
Gilmour: Nein, ich habe seit Jahren nicht mehr mit ihm gesprochen.
Frage: Weißt Du, was mit Robbie Ray passiert ist, der beim Gilmour Negus Project (GNP) auf der Platte „Safety zone" von 1989 gesungen hat?
Gilmour: Er ging nach Thailand und überlebte den Tsunami 2004 auf der Insel Phuket. Leider ist er nicht lange danach an Alkoholismus gestorben. Sehr traurig.
Frage: Woran arbeitest Du zur Zeit neben Saga?
Ich arbeite mit dem früheren Gitarristen von Megadeth Glen Drover an einer neuen Scheibe. Sie ist mit Gesang und teilweise sehr heavy.
Wir haben 2011 schon eine CD veröffentlicht. Es war eine Mischung aus Jazz, Metall und progressiven Elementen. Sie hieß „Metalusion" .
Frage: Deine Mutter hat die ersten Platten von Saga sehr gefördert!
Gilmour: Meine Mum arbeitete in einem Kaufhaus. Sie ging öfter in die Plattenabteilung und stellte die Scheiben von Saga vorne hin, damit sie besser auffielen. Vielleicht wurden ein paar Scheiben mehr verkauft ......... (lacht).
DIE NEUE CD 20/20
Frage: Du singst auf „Another day out of sight"!
Gilmour. Ich habe den Song geschrieben und meine Stimme passte sehr dazu. Eigentlich ist auf jedem Album ein Lied von mir gesungen.
Frage: „Ellery" ist jedem Saga-Fan ein Begriff!
Gilmour: Es ist die Hauptperson Ellery Sneed vom Song „The Perfectionist" aus unserem ersten Album von 1978. Er hielt an seinem Lebensende ein großes Fest, zu dem er alle seine Freunde einlud.
Frage: „Spin it again" und „One of these days" sind sehr metall-mäßig.
Gilmour: Wir haben es nicht im Voraus geplant. Es hat sich im Studio so ergeben.
Frage: Eure Plattenfirma sagt, ihr würdet zu den Ursprüngen zurückkehren. Ich finde, ihr verwendet eher moderne Sounds und schaut vorwärts.
Gilmour: Genau! Ich würde sagen, 20/20 klingt wie die alten Saga, aber auf neuartige Weise.
Frage: „Till the well runs dry" lebt von seiner nervösen Gitarre. War es schwierig, den Song aufzunehmen?
Gilmour: Daran haben wir lange gearbeitet. Die Produktion ist üppiger ausgefallen als gewöhnlich. Mir gefällt es den Song live zu spielen, aber er ist ein bisschen schwierig, weil viele verschiedene Elemente enthalten sind.

Die Stimme ist wieder da
Die kanadische Rockband Saga hat ihren Sänger Michael Sadler wieder - und ein neues Album
Es war ein konsequenter, für die nicht wenigen Fans der Band aber schmerzhafter Entschluss, den der Saga-Sänger Michael Sadler fällte: Nach 30 Jahren verließ der Kanadier 2007 die weltweit erfolgreiche Gruppe, die Hits wie "Humble Stance" und "The Flyer" hatte. Damals wollte er ein neues Kapitel in seinem Leben aufzuschlagen, sich mehr um seine Familie kümmern. Das war damals, jetzt hat er es sich anders überlegt und stellt mit Saga ein neues Album namens "20/20" vor.

Sadler, der gestern 58 Jahre alt wurde, erklärte damals unmissverständlich: "Ich liebe Saga, doch für einen Mann über 50 gibt es andere Prioritäten." In diesem Falle waren es vor allem die Ehefrau und sein neugeborenes Kind. Sadler nahm in aller Freundschaft den Hut und machte Platz für den jüngeren Frontmann Rob Moratti als Sänger der Neo-Progressive-Rock-Veteranen.
Heute sieht die Sache komplett anders aus: 24 Stunden nach Sadlers Geburtstag erscheint heute mit "20/20", (Ear Music/Edel) das 20. Werk des Quintetts. Neuer Frontmann ist kein Geringerer als ... Michael Sadler. "Mir ist natürlich klar", meint der prächtig gelaunte Charmeur lachend, "dass mir eine ganze Menge Leute absprechen werden, dass ich Rückgrat besitze, weil ich vor fünf Jahren in jedes nur erdenkliche Mikrofon geplaudert habe, dass für mich die 'Ära Saga' definitiv vorbei ist. Aber was soll ich sagen?" Die "Jungs von der Band" hätten ihn bereits Ende 2010 gefragt, ob er sich eine Rückkehr vorstellen könne. "Sie hatten neues Material, das sie lieber mit mir als mit meinem Nachfolger Moratti aufnehmen wollten", erinnert sich Sadler.

Vor einer Woche ging die Seite mit dem neuen Layout und vielen Updates online.
An dieser Stelle möchte ich mich ganz herzlich für die vielen, vielen netten und ausschliesslich positiven Mails bedanken, die uns zeigen, dass die viele Mühe nicht umsonst ist.
Das Archiv ist mal wieder um einige Einträge gewachsen, wir freuen uns aber über alles, was an relevanten Dingen, wie Scans von Presseberichten etc. oder Bildern bei euch schlummert.
Dies ist vielleicht eine gute Gelegenheit nochmals darauf hinzuweisen, dass wir nicht mit Kopien handeln. Mich erreichen ständig Mails mit Anfragen nach Bootlegs, Kopien von Promo-Alben und Ähnlichem. Sorry, aber dafür ist SAGA Germany nicht die Plattform. Diese Mails werden ignoriert.
Ich sage nochmals Danke für die überwältigende Resonanz und wünsche uns allen einen rockigen Sommer!

Viele Stärken, wenige Schwächen und stellenweise das Potential zum Klassiker.
Es dürfte sich herumgesprochen haben: Michael Sadler, die Stimme von SAGA, ist wieder an Bord. Außerdem hat Mike Thorne für den ausgestiegenen Brian Doerner hinter dem Schlagzeug Platz genommen. Die erste Veröffentlichung dieser alt-neuen Besetzung ist das neue Album "20/20", das - welche Überraschung - zwanzigste Studioalbum der Kanadier.
Ich muss zugeben, beim ersten Hören gefiel mir "20/20" nicht, aber mit jedem Durchlauf wurde meine Skepsis geringer, da man sich in dieses Album einhören muss. SAGA haben es geschafft, eine CD einzuspielen, die einerseits den unverkennbaren Bandsound auffährt, andererseits aber auch von dort aus neue Pfade beschreitet. Zu den Hochzeiten der Band hat es erbitterte Schulhofdebatten gegeben, ob SAGA wegen der Gitarre eher Hardrock, wegen der Keyboards eher Poprock oder wegen der ausgefeilten Arrangements eher Progressive Rock spielen. Ich konnte mich mit der Bezeichnung Prog Rock für SAGA nie uneingeschränkt anfreunden, aber die neue Scheibe muss man da einordnen. "20/20" ist vertrackter und vielschichtiger, als man es erwarten sollte. Ebenso sind die härteren Stücke (etwa 'Spin It Again' oder 'One Of These Days') härter als gewohnt, fast schon metallisch. Allerdings sind auch einzelne ruhige Stellen etwas behäbiger.
So spielen SAGA ihre Stärken aus: gute Kompositionen, eine zupackende Atmosphäre, die aber auch melancholische Zwischentöne zulässt, Michael Sadlers unverwechselbare Stimme, Ian Crichtons satte Gitarren, breite Keyboard- und Synthiwände. Und dann überraschen immer wieder kleine Volten und Wendungen, etwa der Aufbau von 'Six Feet Under' oder die düstere Stimmung von 'Till The Well Runs Dry'. Als symbolisch kann man jene Stelle in 'Lost For Words' nehmen, als absolut typische SAGA-Synthis ertönen und dann sofort durch ein erdiges Klavier konterkariert werden.
SAGA-Fans dürfen sich auf ein Markenprodukt freuen, das Bewährtes und Neues vereint. Ebenso erhalten Gegner der Band neue Munition. Schade ist nur, dass "20/20" nicht wesentlich länger ist als eine SAGA-Platte aus den 80ern.

A lot has happened since Saga's last studio album 'The Human Condition' back in 2009. The biggest news is the return of original vocalist Michael Sadler, replacing Rob Moratti. The band also have a new drummer in Mike Thorne and have left Inside Out for their new label Ear Music/Edel.
This album picks up from where the last album with Sadler, '10,000 Days' left off. It is full of catchy, upbeat songs that may have a reflective lyric but contain a positive spin. The album also includes one of the heaviest songs they have ever recorded in 'Spin It Again'. This song has a driving bass line Lemmy would be proud off.
'Any Where You Wanna Go' and 'Six Feet Under' combine keys, tasty guitar riffs and highly infectious choruses. If there was any justice in daytime radio these songs would be regular plays.
Throughout the album the keyboards are certainly back more in the mix and quantity with Sadler back onboard. That's not to say Ian Crichton's guitar solos are not present – he is one of the most underrated guitarists in the rock scene.
'Lost For Words' is a ballad and a chance for Sadler's vocals to shine, along with some lovely backing harmonies. 'Show And Tell' is the nearest the band get to a prog rock wig out. Mind you Saga have stuck to their guns and produced albums they enjoy and for this fan I am glad they are not doing albums like those from the mid-90′s.
Fans of the band will love this album and those who like keyboards led melodic rock would be well advised to grab a copy.

SAGA TO RELEASE NEW STUDIO ALBUM "20/20" IN JULY 2012
Finally reunited again with their original singer Michael Sadler, SAGA will release the ultimate AOR/progressive rock album, "20/20", worldwide on July 6th, 2012.
Since SAGA's foundation in 1977, the band has toured the globe various times, won many awards and has sold over 8 million albums world wide. Their musical style is defined by prominent guitar riffs, often in harmony with a synthesizer, and complex keyboard arrangements.
The title "20/20" first of all refers to the album being the 20th of SAGA, but in addition it's a good luck wish to Jim Gilmour, who had to undergo an eye operation during SAGA's latest European tour. 20/20 stands for the perfect eyesight.
The album features ten brand new songs, never missing the distinctive sound of SAGA's legendary hits.

Hello Everyone,
Are we really halfway through February already? My, how time flies when ...
Let me start by apologizing for my recent silence. It seems that 2012 hasn't begun quite the way I had imagined it would.
After receiving quite a few messages in recent weeks, asking how things are going with SAGA and with my personal life, I realized that it was a good time to step back and take a deep breath. I'd now like to take this opportunity and share with you what's been happening lately.
During the fall tour, in the midst of everything hitting the fan, Gwen and I discovered that our son Seren had a couple of health issues - for his sake, we have to keep it private, but we felt we could share a little with you.
It was discovered incidentally that our son Seren had an extremely large cyst in his left kidney, so we immediately scheduled surgery for shortly after his 4th birthday in January. Without going into details, I am ecstatic to report that the surgery was successful, the cyst benign, and the doctor was very relieved that we got to it when we did. Now that the kidney situation is under control, we will return our attention to Seren's overall health and well-being. We are forever grateful to our family and friends that have been incredibly supportive during all this.
So yeah, that was quite an eye opener and one hell of a way to start the new year but hey, life goes on, right? Now it's time to dig in and get back to "work"!
And so, on the topic of "work"...
I'd like to start by thanking all of you that came out to the fall shows to support SAGA and my "return." Despite all the challenges, health (my surprise bout with pneumonia) and otherwise, I felt that it went very well and I'm looking very much forward to returning to the stage this year with a new show and new material to play/perform for everyone.
As far as "new material" is concerned, for those of you who don't know, the new album (our 20th, by the way), aptly titled "20/20", is nearing completion and we're hoping for a release sometime in the Spring. Part of the reason for the delay in releasing this one is our concern to get it right, so we're being very particular about the mixes.
However, as I said, we're getting very close to completion now, so just a tad more patience will be required I'm afraid. (I believe the wait will be well worth it.) I'll keep you updated with any new info whenever I can.

Hallo alle zusammen,
Ist es wirklich schon Mitte Februar? Wie die Zeit vergeht, wenn...
Zuerst möchte ich mich dafür entschuldigen, dass ich so still war. Es sieht so aus, als ob 2012 nicht ganz so begonnen hat, wie ich es mir gewünscht hätte.
Nachdem ich in letzter Zeit einige Nachrichten erhalten habe, in denen ich gefragt wurde, wie es mit SAGA und in meinem Privatleben läuft, dachte ich, es wäre ein guter Zeitpunkt innezuhalten und tief durchzuatmen. Nun möchte ich diese Gelegenheit nutzen und euch mitteilen was in letzter Zeit geschehen ist.
Während der Herbst-Tour, mitten im grössten Trubel, erfuhren Gwen und ich, dass unser Sohn Seren ein paar gesundheitliche Probleme hat - um seinetwillen müssen wir Details für uns behalten, aber wir wollten euch dies mitteilen.
Zufällig wurde eine extrem grosse Zyste in Serens linker Niere entdeckt, und deshalb haben wir eine Operation kurz nach seinem 4. Geburtstag im Januar geplant. Ohne dabei ins Detail zu gehen, kann ich glücklicherweise mitteilen, dass die Operation erfolgreich war, die Zyste war gutartig, und der Arzt war sehr erleichtert, dass wir rechtzeitig gekommen waren. Nun, da die Nierengeschichte unter Kontrolle ist, werden wir unsere Aufmerksamkeit wieder Serens allgemeinem Gesundheitszustand und Wohlbefinden widmen. Wir sind unserer Familie und unseren Freunden, die uns während dieser Zeit unglaublich unterstützt haben, auf ewig dankbar.
Ja, das hat mir echt die Augen geöffnet und es war ein denkbar mieser Start ins Neue Jahr, aber hey, das Leben geht weiter, oder? Nun ist es an der Zeit in sich zu gehen und wieder an die "Arbeit" zu gehen!
Und deshalb, jetzt zum Thema "Arbeit"...
Ich möchte damit beginnen, mich bei allen zu bedanken, die im Herbst zu den Konzerten kamen um SAGA und meine "Heimkehr" zu unterstützen. Trotz der Herausforderungen, des Gesundheitszustandes (meine überraschende Lungenentzündung) und anderen Dingen fand ich, dass alles wirklich gut lief und ich freue mich sehr darauf, dieses Jahr wireder auf der Bühne zu stehen - mit einer neuen Show und dabei für alle neues Material zu spielen und zu singen.
Bezüglich des neuen Materials, für die, die es nicht wissen, kann ich sagen, dass das neue Album (unser 20. Studioalbum) treffenderweise "20/20" heissen wird und kurz vor der Fertigstellung ist. Wir hoffen, dass es irgendwann im Frühjahr herauskommen wird. Teilweise ist der Grund der Verzögerung, dass uns bei diesem Album sehr wichtig ist, alles richtig zu machen. Deshalb sind wir beim Mixing sehr eigen.
Nunja, wie schon gesagt, wir sind kurz vor der Fertigstellung, ich fürchte, ihr müsst noch ein bisschen Geduld aufbringen. (Ich glaube, das Warten wird sich lohnen.) Wann immer ich kann, werde ich euch auf dem Laufenden halten.
Ich wünsche euch und eueren Lieben von ganzem Herzen Gesundheit, Glück und Erfolg für dieses Jahr.
