Die kanadischen Progressivrocker SAGA verabschieden sich bei ihrem 40-jährigen Jubiläum mit Akustik-Set plus Best-Of-Programm

(thk) 40. Geburtstagsfeier und Abschiedstour in einem, das sind die letzten Shows von SAGA in Europa! Zahlreiche Konzerte wurden für die Kanadier hierzulande zwischen dem 20. Oktober und 27. November gebucht. Dort werden sie ein zweiteiliges Set spielen.
Dessen erste 45 Minuten sind rein akustisch, während die nächsten 90 aus einem Best-Of-Programm an Songs ihrer 21 Studioalben bestehen. Fester Bestandteil dabei sind natürlich die Klassiker des Quintetts wie „Don’t Be Late“, „On The Loose“, „The Flyer“, Wind Him Up“, „Humble Stance“ oder „Scratching The Surface“.
SAGA steht 2017 in folgender Besetzung auf der Bühne: Lead-Vocalist Michael Sadler ist der gewohnt charismatische Frontmann, dahinter die Brüder Ian (Gitarre) und Jim Crichton (Bass, Keyboards), Keyboarder/Sänger Jim Gilmour sowie Schlagzeuger/Sänger Mike Thorne. Ihr (Bombast-)Sound ist gekennzeichnet von melodiösen, komplexen Klangkaskaden mit staccatoartigen Gitarreneinschüben, orchestralen Keyboards und pathetischem Gesang.
Das englischsprachige Hardcover „40 years of SAGA“ (http://book.saga.band) von Susi Müller & Hans-Willi Carl lässt auf 550 Seiten anhand von 2.300 Fotos und vielen Anekdoten den gesamten Werdegang jener Band Revue passieren, die im Juli 1977 das erste Mal öffentlich auftrat. Seit seiner Gründung wurden die Tonträger des Quintetts weltweit acht Millionen Mal verkauft. Der letzte ist das 2015 für zwei CDs aufgezeichnete DigiPack „Live In Hamburg“ (earMUSIC).
Die mit dem runden Jubiläum verknüpfte Abschiedstournee kündigte Michael Sadler auf der bandeigenen Homepage so an: „Ladies und Gentlemen, Jungs und Mädels, in diesem Jahr schreiben, touren und recorden wir schon seit vier Jahrzehnten zusammen als Band. Nach großem Hin und Her haben meine Brüder und ich jedoch leider entschieden, dass 2017 SAGAs ‚Final Chapter‘ sein wird. Wir möchten diese Gelegenheit ergreifen, absolut allen zu danken - Ihr habt es uns ermöglicht, auf diese unglaubliche Reise zu gehen. Auch wenn es bittersüß sein wird, freuen wir uns sehr darauf, so viele von Euch wie möglich dieses Jahr noch mal zu sehen und Euch persönlich zu danken!“

SAGA - REISSUE SERIES

earMUSIC releases an excellent SAGA reissue series within one year, covering all studio albums from 1989 – 2007. All twelve albums are enhanced by exclusive bonus tracks, newly recorded at Fabrik, Hamburg in April 2015 – Of course they’ve been never released before.
The beautifully designed booklets, including loads of original fan material, press articles, and more, are a must have for every fan. SAGA - REISSUE SERIES - GENERATION 13

GENERATION 13
Originally released: 1995
Preceding album: Steel Umbrellas (1994)

The 11th studio album "Generation 13" was originally released 1995 and saw SAGA release their first concept album. Inspired by the book ´13 Gen Abort Retry Ignore Fail` by Neill Howe and Bill Strauss keyboardist Jim Crichton developed the (fictitious) story of young Jeremy, a member of what is known as the 13th Gen, whose future prospects were full of uncertainties such as unemployment or homelessness despite the nation’s huge wealth. As a result, Generation 13 turned out as a very complex musical album with great rock songs and a truly creative and interesting story full of social criticism. The album is considered as a one of the best concept albums in prog rock history by many.

For this re-release, the album was completely remastered (2015). The tracklist is completed by one additional bonus tracks (never released before), newly recorded during their European Touring 2015 at Fabrik, Hamburg.
